GARY CHERONE: VAN HALEN Were Great To Me
October 8, 2002Despite the commercial disappointment of the critically-panned Van Halen III album (released in 1998),former VAN HALEN/EXTREME vocalist Gary Cherone claims that he has no hard feelings about his experience in the group.
"Those guys were awesome," Cherone told Launch. "(We) did an album, did a tour, started to write stuff for the second record and I guess and due to some personal, some frustrating moments, parts on my part — this wasn't coming from the band —whether there was pressure from the label, the talk of Dave and all that stuff, it just seemed the time and place to move on. All I can say that those guys were absolutely great to me."
With regards to the state of VAN HALEN since his departure, Cherone said: "You know, I knew they were going to hook up with Dave after I split, and I don't know what came of it. But I just got a chance to meet Sammy recently, and who knows? I think that's the next step with those guys."
Cherone's current project, TRIBE OF JUDAH, will release their debut album, entitled Exit Elvis, on October 22nd through Spitfire Records. The touring version of the band features former GODSMACK drummer Tommy Stewart and former EXTREME bassist Pat Badger.
